Different Types of Glass
Glass comes in many different forms. Some are recyclable and some are not. The most recyclable one is commonly known as a domestic glass waste and can easily be converted into cullets that will then be recycled into new glass. Below are the types of glasses:
Ceramics – Technically, ceramic glass is made from a different material than glass jars and bottles. It is made solely from clay. When glass is being recycled, it is melted to be remoulded into new glass. With ceramics, that is not possible.
Window glass or reflective glass – This type of glass has been created so that it offers some kind of reflection. It is recyclable but cannot be recycled with the standard glass items. It needs a different melting point.
Decorative glass – This glass is painted or coated with foil. Due to the coatings and the painting, it also cannot be recycled.
Foodware glass – For the most part, glass that we use in the kitchen is recyclable, save for ceramic glass. This includes but not limited to condiment containers, food storage, jars.
Wired glass – Wired glass is mixed with wire mesh. It is specially treated to withstand fires and breakages. Due to its coatings, it is also difficult to recycle.
Glass Waste Recycling London
First, we’ll collect the wasted glass from your premises to be delivered to our recycling centres. We’ll also offer you free glass waste bins. You can choose from the 120L or 240L wheelie bins.
At the recycling centre, the glass will be sorted according to their resin code and washed off of any contaminants. After all the contaminants are removed, the glass will then be crushed and then melted in a furnace. Lastly, the glass will be moulded or blown into new bottles or jars.
